Stages of the Camino
Meeting and lodging in Sarria
We will meet at the hostel to welcome the group of school children and explain how this adventure is going to be organized. From the team of Guía Camino de Santiago we will give you some important recommendations and information to make this trip incredible. In the evening, we will have dinner as a group to get to know each other a little better.
First stage: Sarria - Portomarín
- Distance to be traveled: 22 kms.
- Estimated time: 5-6 hours.
- Difficulty: Low.
It's time to start walking with your classmates and teachers. In this first stage, which does not have many slopes, you will be able to enjoy the essence of Galicia and its rural side. You will cross meadows, medieval bridges and villages and you will meet many pilgrims along the way. To finish the stage, you will arrive at Portomarín, a beautiful village that will welcome you with a large staircase.
Second stage: Portomarín - Palas de Rei
- Distance to be traveled: 25 kms.
- Estimated time: 6 hours.
- Difficulty: Low.
This stage begins in Portomarín and has no great difficulty. We will have to cross the Embalse de Belesar and continue along paths next to the road. Then you will find asphalt roads to walk and some places like the Cruceiro de Os Lameiros and the archaeological sites of Castromaior, worth seeing. We will pass through towns like Gonzar or Ventas de Narón, where you can make a stop.
End of the stage, we have arrived at Palas de Rei.
Third stage: Palas de Rei - Ribadiso de Baixo
- Distance to be traveled: 27 kms.
- Estimated time: 7-8 hours.
- Difficulty: Medium.
A more demanding stage, but at the same time beautiful. Its nature, the people of the villages and, of course, the gastronomy, define this route. You will pass through villages like Melide, where you can stop to taste its famous octopus and relax with your friends and teachers.
The second part of the stage runs through areas with more ups and downs and to finish the day you will reach the small and beautiful village of Ribadiso.
Stage 4: Ribadiso - Pedrouzo
- Distance to be covered: 21 kms.
- Estimated time: 5-6 hours.
- Difficulty: Low.
We have nothing left to get to Santiago de Compostela.
Come on, team, let's go for this penultimate stage! We will start in Ribadiso, passing through villages like Arzúa, where you can make a stop and taste its cheese, which is very famous. Along the way you will enjoy nature in its purest form and at some points you will cross forest tracks.
There will be a section of trail running, which will end in a downhill slope until reaching O Pedrouzo, almost there!
Fifth stage: Pedrouzo - Santiago de Compostela
Last stage of 19 kilometers to reach Santiago de Compostela, the end of the Camino. We have set ourselves a group challenge that we will achieve all together. We will leave from O Pedrouzo crossing towns like Lavacolla or San Marcos, where we will be able to see the Cathedral for the first time from Monte do Gozo. Here the excitement is already beginning to show because we are already visualizing the entrance to Santiago.
We have arrived at the Obradoiro square, let the emotions flow, smile or cry with emotion hugging with your colleagues because you have achieved it. Congratulations.
